THE DOUBLE CHAMBER TEA BAG
Did you know that the double chamber tea bag used around the world today was invented by Teekanne? Convenient, hygienic and quick, it was a big hit straight away. Now tea-lovers around the globe make great-tasting tea this way.
It was in 1949 that the Teekanne Group launched an entirely new kind of tea bag of unique quality that was soon to become a standard everywhere in the world. Produced fully automatically, the double chamber tea bag features an ingenious folding technique that makes gluing or sealing unnecessary. Teekanne double chamber tea bags are made exclusively of top-quality, taste-neutral filter paper. But what makes them really special are the two chambers that let the water circulate optimally around the tea. This brings out the full flavour of the tea particles and aroma substances.
So 1949 was the start of a new tea drinking era, because this invention revolutionised tea-drinkers' habits. Just one year later Teekanne GmbH began series production of its Teefix brand in double chamber tea bags. Teefix became one of Germany's first ever convenience products. The double chamber tea bags began to conquer the world, helping Teekanne become a global player whose name is firmly linked to the invention of double chamber tea bags.
We fold the taste-neutral and odourless high quality filter paper so that the tea stays in two chambers. This way, the water can circulate around the tea from all sides and the aroma develops fully in your cup. This innovation spelled the end of the glued, single-chamber tea bag that gives the tea aroma less room to develop.
Gone are the days when discerning tea drinkers turned their noses up at tea bags. Yet some people still think tea bags contain only poorer-quality tea.
Today especially the good brands of tea bags feature top-quality teas, mainly the finest grades called "BOP's", "fannings" and "dust". The advantage is that these fine and finest grades offer the boiling water a large surface area in the confined space of the tea bag, making these teas very strong and aromatic. So they are certainly not inferior quality! The only difference between these and loose teas is the leaf size. How the leaves are picked and processed determines the grade of the tea, and the harvest of a single plant can be used to produce different leaf grades. You can rest assured when you buy Teekanne tea in any form that you always get top-quality tea.
